Tuckahoe High School on national historic list
Just got a message from Tuckahoe High School. It’s official. The school now is on the national list of historic places as well as the state list.

The high school, built in 1930, was being considered for the national register of historic places at the time. (Seth Harrison / The Journal News )
Here’s a copy of text of the letter, dated March 9, announcing the award from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and addressed to Dr. Michael V. Yazurlo, Superintendent of Schools, Tuckahoe Union Free School District:
Dear Dr. Yazurlo:
“I am pleased to inform you that (Tuckahoe High School, 65 Siwanoy Blvd., Tuckahoe) was listed Feb. 24, 2010, on the National Register of Historic Places. As you may know, the National Register is the nation’s official list of properties worthy of preservation. Listing on the National Register recognizes the importance of these properties to the history of our country and provides them with a measure of protection. In addition, owners of income-producing properties may qualify for federal income tax benefits. Properties owned by municipalities and not-for-profit organizations are eligible to apply for state historic preservation matching grants.”
The letter is signed Ruth L. Pierpont, director of the Division for Historic Preservation.
