Tomorrow is the grand opening of “The Heroes Next Door,” a display and exhibit of the memories and memorabilia of local men and women who fought in this nation’s wars.
The exhibit, which will be on display from May 27 through July 5, will be at the OSilas Gallery at Concordia College. Featured are more than 70 personal stories from Eastchester, Bronxville and Tuckahoe residents who died while serving in the military during World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
The exhibit includes model planes of the period, newspper pages from the 1940s, maps, recruiting posters and other memorabilia.
The stories were collected by Michael Fix of Eastchester, a local historian, Vietnam-era veteran and a founder of Westover Air Force Base USO during Desert Storm/Desert Shield.
While the exhibit is on display, the gallery will hold two special events: a flag disposal ceremony on June 12, and a special concert by the Jazz Knights of West Ppoint.
