The League of Women Voters groupĀ headquartered in Bronxville but including members in Eastchester and Tuckahoe has voted to disband.
President Edith Szold said the membership has been steady for the past few years, but no one has been willing to step up to take leadership positions. Without a full leadership slate and board, the group cannot function. Times have changed, women have more on their plates and the current leaders have been in their jobs long enough and want to step down, she said.
Members will hold a final meeting in March; after that, they can remain at large as members of the national organization, or join groups in White Plains or Scarsdale.
“It’s nobody’s fault,” Szold said. “It’s just the way it happened. This is not peculiar at all to the league in Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe. This is something all the leagues have had to deal with. There just seems to be more demands on everybody’s time.”
