A coalition of environmental groups are selling two eco-friendly home devices at wholesale prices as part of a push for “green” home makeovers.
The $75 rain barrel helps to cut water bills by using stored rain to water lawns and reduces energy spent at water treatment facilities. Homeowners will need to adapt a down spout for the barrel. The $55 compost bin helps reduce some of the 650 pounds of kitchen and yard waste per home per year, turning it into odorless fertilizer and topsoil.
Go to this link to download a purchase form or reserve online at compostbinandrainbarrel2012.eventbrite.com. The devices must be ordered by June 6 to be ready for pick-up on June 9 at Eastchester Town Hall from 9 to 11:30 a.m. or at White Plains Gedney Hall from 1 to 4 p.m.
Payments must be in the form of cash or a check; no credit cards will be accepted.
The sale is sponsored by the Southern Westchester Energy Action Consortium, Saw Mill River Coalition, Targeted Watersheds, Hudson River Estuary and Groundwork.
