The Garrett Park Neighborhood Association will hold its 7th annual block party and flea market from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 23.
The event features flea market tables from neighbors, some crafters and a few professional exhibitors. Tom Falconi, a local caterer, personal chef and resident of Garrett Park, will be offering hot dogs, burgers and similar food for sale. There will also be DJ entertainment.
MaryAnne Denniston, a 34-year resident of the area, which includes 12 cooperative apartment buildings, said the event draws a couple of hundred people who enjoy listening to the music and browsing the tables where residents sell household items.
“The flea market started as an afterthought, and it really has become a great deal of fun,” she said. “Sometimes there are some really good things. I got a great bookcase one year.”
The event will take place on the portion of Parkview Avenue that runs between Palmer Road and Pondfield Road West on the border of Bronxville and Yonkers. The entrances to the area are from Palmer Road opposite the southbound Bronx River Parkway ramp and Pondfield Road West near the Pondfiled Café. Visitors to the area can look for balloons by the Palmer Avenue bridge and the Pondfield Road bridge to find the event.
Vehicle traffic and parking will be suspended on Parkview from Garrett Place to Pondfield Road West.
Funds raised at the event will be used to support neighborhood projects, including the gardens by the Palmer Road and Pondfield Road West bridges.
