The Town of Eastchester’s fourth-annual “Bike Week” begins on Sept. 30 and continues until Oct. 7.
The Eastchester Environmental Committee is encouraging residents of Eastchester, Bronxville and Tuckahoe to bike to shopping, school and work.
“We have a major traffic congestion problem in Eastchester. As we all know, it’s hard to get around, especially on the weekends,” said Peter McCartt, chairman of the committee. “We are trying to raise awareness that we can bike in this town. If we raise awareness, people will respect bikers.”
Cyclists who ride their bikes to local businesses can expect discounts from sponsors. “We believe in local businesses and shopping locally, and there is no better way to do that than by biking or walking,” McCartt said.
Sierra Cycles is giving 40 percent off a new bicycle or repair and 10 percent off accessories. Most other merchants are offering 10 percent off or similar discounts, including: Eastern Mountain Sports, the Eastchester Shopping Center, Teresa’s Bakery & Café, Louie & Johnnies Cheese Steaks & Clam Bar, S&J Pizzeria, Ruffled Feathers Gourmet Rotisserie & Market Place, Go Greenly, Uncle Louie G’s Ice Cream, Tyforos Florist and The Running Store.
