Three college-bound seniors at Eastchester High School were named Commended Students in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Jennifer Cimons, Grant Cohen and Humayra Mayat placed in the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who competed.
Cimons would like to major in biochemistry in college. She has been an active member of the Human Rights Club since 10th grade and enjoys tutoring students in science.
Cohen would like to study economics or international relations in college. He has been an active member of the Spanish Club since 10th grade. He has also been a member of the Going Green Club and the Academic Challenge Team. He also has been member of the varsity winter and spring track teams.
Mayat is interested in studying medicine in college. She moved to Eastchester in the spring of her junior year. Before that, in New Hyde Park, she was active in the Foreign Language Honor Society, school newspaper, the Muslim Students Association and Mathletes.
