The Eastchester Irish American Social Club has picked David Flannery to be grand marshal of this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 10. Jean McCluskey and Breda Travers were selected as parade honorees.
Flannery, born in County Tipperary, Ireland, immigrated to the United States in 1985. A member of the social club since 2001 and its present treasurer, Flannery and his wife, Annmarie, have three boys, Jack, Jimmy and David. A contractor and owner of a hardware store in the Bronx, Flannery is also an assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop 353 in Eastchester. Flannery has chosen his 15-year-old son, Jack, and longtime friend, Tom Cascione, as his aides for the parade. McCluskey was born in Dublin, Ireland and moved to Eastchester in 1978. A member of the social club since 1998, she is the marketing director of the Irish Tourism Board. Travers immigrated to Eastchester from Limerick, Ireland, in 1990, and has been a member of the social club since 1995.
The parade will begin at 3 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe and march north on Route 22 to the Lake Isle Country Club. Local schools and organizations will march in the event, which will feature 10 pipe bands, seven brass marching bands and many other groups, including the police and fire departments. Veterans and active military will march. Antique cars will join as well.
