Tuckahoe High School junior Joshua Hofflich has been named a candidate for the 2014 National Merit Scholarship awards. He is among the top 3 percent of the 1.5 million high school students across the country who took the Preliminary SAT, or PSAT, in October. Hofflich is a member of Tuckahoe High School’s Science Olympiad team, a writer for the school newspaper and volunteers for lighting for school productions. He volunteers at the Community Service Associate’s soup kitchen in Mount Vernon. This summer, he will be an intern at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, working in a research laboratory conducting high-tech whole genome sequencing targeted at finding a cure for breast cancer. His hobbies include filmmaking and video production.
