The Village of Scarsdale’s water emergency is still in effect as workers work to fix two failed water pumps. “We’re repairing them. We hope to have them back up by the end of today,” said Village Manager Al Gatta. Two of Scarsdale’s five water pumps failed Saturday morning. Residents were advised to limit unnecessary water use and barred from watering their lawns, washing their cars or filling their swimming pools. The pumps that failed were 60 years old, Gatta said, speculating that perhaps age contributed to the failure. A power surge might also have been the cause, which has not been identified. Once the pumps are back in use, the water emergency state will be lifted, Gatta said. However, he expects the village to impose a water alert, which will limit lawn watering to two times a week.
